Description
A rich, fruit-forward natural from the Rwenzori Mountains. It delivers notes of ripe plum, berry jam, and cocoa nibs with a heavy, syrupy body. Makes a nice, sweet single origin espresso.
This natural-process lot from the Rwenzori region delivers a deeply sweet, plush, and fruit-forward profile anchored by a rich, heavy body. The aroma opens with sweet dried fruit and dark chocolate notes. On the palate, expect a rich wave of ripe stone fruit and juicy plum, layered with notes of dark strawberry jam, cocoa nibs, and a subtle spice complexity. The natural processing gives it a thick, syrupy mouthfeel and a lingering, sweet finish with soft, balanced acidity. Its heavy body, high natural sweetness, and low acidity make it an exceptional candidate for single origin espresso, producing a viscous shot with a thick, dark crema and concentrated fruit notes.
This lot undergoes a traditional, highly meticulous natural dry process managed through local washing stations in Kasese. Smallholder farmers hand-select only fully ripe, deep red cherries from the high-altitude slopes. Once delivered to the station, the cherries are floated in water to remove any low-density or defective fruit. The selected cherries are then spread out in thin layers on raised African drying beds. Over the course of two to three weeks, the cherries are turned constantly throughout the day to ensure uniform drying and prevent over-fermentation, while being covered during the heat of midday and at night to protect against moisture. This slow drying inside the intact fruit skin allows the sugars from the fruit pulp to deeply saturate the seed, creating the lot's signature jammy fruit profile and heavy body.
This coffee is grown along the fertile slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, famously known as the Mountains of the Moon, surrounding Kasese in western Uganda. Smallholder farmers cultivate coffee on small family plots at high altitudes, benefiting from rich volcanic soil, abundant rainfall, and unique microclimates created by the snow-capped mountain range. In recent years, targeted investments in local processing infrastructure and farmer training through centralized receiving stations in Kasese have transformed the region, shifting it from traditional commodity production to producing exceptionally clean, high-scoring specialty natural lots.
